Frequently Asked Questions

  • A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum period. Unlike a medical provider, a doula doesn’t perform clinical tasks—instead, they offer personalized guidance, comfort techniques, and advocacy to help you feel supported and empowered throughout your journey.

  • A midwife is a medical professional trained to monitor your health and your baby’s health. A doula, on the other hand, focuses on non-medical support—like helping with pain management techniques, offering reassurance, and creating a calm, grounded environment. Many families choose to have both as part of their birth team.

  • You can hire a doula at any point in your pregnancy, but many people reach out in the second trimester to ensure availability and build a relationship before labor begins. Some doulas also offer last-minute support if their schedule allows.
